Q: Lily we left off with you saying that you started the company, because other skin care products just did not work, is that right?

A: Yes, absolutely, when I was a kid working on the farm, my Dad made us work every weekend, but he always paid us, so I always had money, very hard earned money that I was not fast to part with easily. I use to go to the department stores and see the brand names, that were very expensive and try to figure out, what exactly was in that product that would clear up my skin and make the acne go away. Then, I would go to the grocery store and look at those products that were 20% of the cost of the department store brands and wonder why they were so much less expensive.

I never did subscribe to the theory that just because it was more expensive it was better, so I wrote down all the ingredients of both the expensive and less expensive and tried to determine, first what exactly was the ingredient that would cure my ills, and second, was the more expensive truly going to work better. As frugal as I was, I would have done or paid anything to make that acne go away, but I didn’t want to waste my money.

Q: So, what happened?

A: I took both ingredient lists and looked all the ingredients up in chemical dictionaries my Dad had in our house. He was a pomologist, (the study of fruit) and horticulturist and studied plant and chemical chemistry in college. (more on him in later posts.)

Q: What did you find out?

A: The first thing I found out was that none of the ingredients had any relationship, even chemically, to clearing up acne. The second thing I discovered was that both the ingredients were almost identical. The $35 product and the $3 product were pretty much the same! Yikes!
