Lily Morgan, Founder & Formulator of Lily Organics Fresh Skin Care, was interviewed March 24, 2011 by The Green Divas. Here are some questions and answers Lily would like all of you to know! You can listen to the show’s 3/24 link here.

Q. Why should women care that their skin care products are USDA Certified Organic and grown on your farm?

A. There is a tremendous amount of talk right now about quality of chain of supply, insuring quality, insuring truth in “green” products, sustainability, toxins and chemicals in everything we do, touch, eat…I read recently that up to 8 pounds of chemicals are ingested by Americans every year, add all that to the radiation scares, and wanting to preserve the products for our children and you get that. People need and are looking for solutions!

Lily Organics is one small answer in a world of overcrowded challenges. We are keeping over 185 acres of Colorado open space organic, we are growing our own ingredients for our skin care products on our own USDA certified organic farm. We never use synthetic chemicals and have not for over 25 years!

We have quality control over our complete chain of supply, from seed to shelf. We can guarantee our products are USDA Certified Organic, we can guarantee quality.

Q. How does one get into farming? What is needed?

A. A really strong work ethic! A piece of ground, and just add water! Organic farming is not rocket science, it is just hard work. Anyone who wants to grow things can, it is the magic of Mother Nature.

Q. You really grow ingredients on your own organic farm, then you make them up fresh in your own laboratory every week? How many other skin care companies do that?

A. To my knowledge, we are the only company in the world.

Q. Why do you go to all that trouble? How does that benefit the consumer?

A. We go to all this trouble so we can insure we provide women with the best skin care available in the world.

Q. How is your company green?

A. We are carbon neutral. We throw out less than a half of one trash bag per week. We recycle, reuse. Even our tractors run on recycled fuel. We have almost no transportation foot print, I do most the farming and then walk it over to the lab!! Our ingredients are grown in the Earth, not synthesized in a chemical plant. We do not put our products in boxes, all of our full size products are in glass. But most of all what makes us green is that we are Organic farmers!!! People don’t get that Organic is not a fashion statement, it is a methodology of agriculture, we are where it starts and ends!!!

Q. Why should women care about Green skin care?

A. Women care for three very different and important reasons, 1.) Mother Nature is the best cure for Father time, Comfrey is the best anti-wrinkle ingredient! Rose hip seed oil and prime rose oil are also cell proliferate, if you want your skin to radiate, improve the appearance, improve the texture, reduce wrinkles and signs of aging, you have to go to Mother Nature. Chemicals may may you look better in the short run, with ingredients like acetone, but in the long run, those products will make you look older faster.

The other reason, of course, is their general health, pouring toxic chemicals on your skin will not improve your overall health.

Most people have children, and even if they don’t, they are in touch with the future generations enough to be cognizant to wanting to leave this planet in as good of shape as we found it. We want future generations to sit under grand trees, dip their toes in the great oceans, hike the mountains, sit in tall grass…we must protect this wonderful planet!

Q. What does being USDA certified organic really mean to the consumer?

A. It is a guarantee. The process is very much like an IRS audit for your dollars. You provide documentation as to where that ingredient came from, complete with their USDA certification documentation, then you have to provide documentation that you ordered it, received it, stored it, used it, and sold it. It is a cumbersome, burdensome process, but it gives the consumer the Gold standard in organics, it provides a third party audit that what we say is true. It is a God send to the consumers that are truly concerned about organic.

Q. Why use herbs and plants in skin care?

A. Synthetic chemicals have only been around for less than 100 years, Mother nature has been providing all the answers to mankind for 25,000. The synthetic chemicals were all made to mimic or do what the chemical constituents in plants do.. For example, Valium was based on Valerian root, Aspirin on white willow bark…

Q. You have been doing this since 1986, what motivated you?

A. Women want skin care that is going to make them look younger or better.

Q. Why use an organic skin care line?

A. Because they work, synthetic chemicals do more harm than good.

Q. Tell us what some of these plants you use do?

A. Comfrey is a documented cell proliferate as is rose hip seed oil. Lavender was used in hospitals as a disinfectant before WWI.

Q. Tell us why you don’t use synthetic chemicals ever?

A. Because they do not improve your skin and because they pollute the planet.
