Discover holistic home remedies for varicose veins
Varicose veins usually appear in the legs when the veins on the surface become blocked and inflamed. They are often from a predisposition inherited from a parent.
Another cause of varicose veins is that they are caused from an excessive intake of fluids, sugar and animal fats. The fats can cause blockages in the veins, and the fluids put pressure on the circulatory system, particularly the veins. When these surface veins of the legs become blocked and swollen, it’s not only unsightly, it can be quite painful.

Put Your Feet Up
Putting your feet up really helps take the pressure off the varicose veins. The elevation of the problem area moves the blood, getting it circulating properly throughout the body.
I try to put my feet up whenever I can. Sure, it seems to annoy some people, seeing you so comfortable at work. However, I love it. It feels good. Anytime you can get your body out of its normal position, I say do it.
Try Yoga Poses
Many yoga poses get the blood flowing in the opposite. This is especially true of yoga poses that get your legs above your body, such as the headstand, shoulder stand and the plow.
Apply Compresses
Alternate hot and cold compresses. Start by soaking a towel in cold water. Wring it out and place it over your legs until it warms up. Then soak the towel in hot water, wring it out and place it over your legs until it cools. Continue this for 15 minutes.
Dietary Changes
Dietary changes can also alleviate the discomfort associated with varicose veins:
- Eat fresh fruits and fresh salads.
- Avoid “negative” fluids such as soda, coffee and alcohol.
- Cut down on meat and other animal-based foods.
- Drink teas made of chamomile, Oregon grape or red clover.
Apply Topical Products
Lotions and essential oils can shrink the veins and alleviate the pressure:
- Use lotions that contain chamomile, calendula or lily.
- Apply essential oil of juniper diluted with almond oil.
- Apply herbal poultices of chamomile and calendula.
- Apply a vinegar poultice, or add a pint of vinegar to bath water.
Fresh Air
Get lots of fresh air. While you’re outside, go for a walk or a swim.
